White line woodblock printmaking is an art form that was pioneered in Provincetown, MA in the early 1900s, primarily by female artists such as Edith Lake Wilkinson, Blanche Lazzell, Ethel Mars, Ada Gilmore, Mildred McMillen, Maud Hunt Squire, and Juliette Nichols. For me, white line printmaking was the answer to a quest I didn’t know I was on. I loved printmaking but wanted to incorporate lots of colors without having to create different blocks for each color and then worry about properly registering them to create a clear image. White line printmaking lets me incorporate all the colors I choose without having to worry about registration. I also like to combine it with abstract acrylic painting, mounting it all on wooden panels.
